Between Spaces;

A Painterly Investigation of Uncertainty and Belonging through the House Museum

The aim of this research project was to investigate the intangible, the unseen, and the uncertain in relation to the house museum and the concepts of home that it can represent. Within this key aim the project also investigated presence and absence, and the way in which these notions can be evoked within the house museum. An objective of the research was to investigate the tension between comfort and unease that can occur within these spaces, and how this sensation can be rendered in paint.

In particular, the research investigated the passing of time, nostalgia, loss and longing, alongside absence and presence, through the exploration of historical interiors, nostalgia and memory.
